Grave Creek Mound Archaeological Complex

The Grave Creek Mound is one of the largest conical-type mounds in the United States standing 62 feet high and 240 in diameter. Tour the mound and the Delf Norona Museum and learn more about Adena Burial mounds. The tour will last about 2 hours. Tours are free to the public. Hours of operation are Monday – Saturday 10am 4:00 pm.

The Grave Creek Mound is located right across the street from the former WV State Penitentiary.

The WV State Penitentiary is a retired, gothic style prison located in Moundsville, WV. It operated from 1876-1995. Currently, the site is maintained as a tourist attraction and training facility. Tours will be available for our group on Friday, May 3rd only. Tours are from 11:00 am until 4:00 pm. Tours last 90 minutes. The cost is $14.00 for adults, $11.00 for 55+, $8,00 for children and under the age of 5 is free.

Prabhupada’s Palace of Gold has guided tours of the interior of the palace where you will learn about the history of the building, community, the people and the person, Srila Prabhupada, for whom the palace was all built. Tours are every half an hour and last for 2-3 hours. $9.50 for adults and $5.50 per child.

Built in 1859, the federal custom house and courtroom provided a facility for many heated political discussions and constitutional conventions that lead to eventual statehood for WV in 1863. Admission is free. Visitors take a self-guided tour of the structure and exhibits. Hours of operation are Tuesday- Saturday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
