Clubs Collect Winter Clothing for Children in Need
Nov. 18, 2017

Members of the Morgantown Service League and Rotary Club of Morgantown gather to ready for distribution to Monongalia County Head Start coats and other outerwear purchased through Rotary International’s “Operation Warm” community initiative.

The Morgantown Service League and the Rotary Club of Morgantown, in partnership with Rotary International’s “Operation Warm”, purchased and prepared for distribution coats, hats, gloves and boots to be presented to over 78 students in the Monongalia County Head Start program. This is a major project for both groups.

The home of Carol Raley is the “hot spot” each year to categorize the clothing by size. The outerwear is attractively assembled in a gift bag and then distributed by the teachers at the Head Start location.
The Rotary Club of Morgantown purchased the coats though Rotary International’s “Operation Warm” community initiative. Donna Tennant, secretary of the club, explained that the “coats come in different sizes and are all very nice”

Timing could not have been better, she added.
“Teachers were telling us about children who had been coming to school without coats because they did not have them,” Tennant said.

Over 230 Rotary Clubs in more than 50 districts have partnered with Operation Warm to conduct service projects that provide new winter coats to children in their communities. In fact, Rotary clubs have provided over 160,000 children all over the country with new winter coats, helping impact communities from New Hampshire to Texas, the Pacific Northwest to Michigan, in large cities and many small towns. Each club identifies its own beneficiary organization(s), typically local schools or youth services agencies, and raises funds locally to support its project.
